The Barn on the Pemi Wedding Venue - Plymouth, NH

Interior of Barn on the Pemi wedding venue

My tour of The Barn on the Pemi seemed very familiar as I had previously photographed two weddings there back in 2018. Even though it had been years since I was there it felt very comfortable as I walked the area and even remembered where I stood to get specific shots during the ceremonies and receptions. While the physical layout of the space was nothing new to me I didn’t really know anything about the backstory of the barn itself and was quite surprised to hear that the venue opened its doors for the first time the very year I had photographed there.

My tour was handled by Sam, one of the Event Specialists at the venue. She was incredibly helpful in answering any questions I had as well as giving me a rundown of how the Barn works to put couples at ease from start to finish. Let’s begin with a little background to set the stage. The actual barn itself, while new to its current location in Plymouth, was built in 1855 as part of a working farm in Canterbury. The structure was disassembled, piece by piece, and put back together to serve a new life as a premier wedding venue. Knowing this history brings an extra Level of depth to what you’re seeing. The simple fact that this barn was “chosen” makes it, all of a sudden, even more compelling to explore and experience.

The venue can hold a total of 300 guests which is great if you’re planning big numbers for your big day. With roughly 10,000 sq ft. of climate controlled event space, guests remain comfortable throughout the festivities. I remember finding it easy to move around guests and take advantage of different perspectives during my time there. Nothing ever felt cramped or poorly planned. In fact, everything about those weddings felt polished as if the process had been finely tuned over years and years of gradually perfecting the experience. It blows my mind that the venue was still in its infancy during that time. I can only imagine that, with years under their belt, they’ve grown even more capable at delivering a dream-worthy stage for couples to begin their new chapter.

Outside, most seasonal ceremonies take place in the greenhouse - an inviting space filled with light, love and greenery to last for days. White wooden chairs, carefully placed in delicate rows, ensure all eyes and ears are on you as you take this most important of steps. Being enclosed, the space has a way of isolating any unwanted noise away from your gathering. If not here, ceremonies are set up on the terrace directly outside the barn. This area is quite expansive and overlooks the mountains. The weddings I photographed used this area for their cocktail hour and as a secondary location for guests to filter in and out of the reception to take in the night air. A fire pit is available for those who want to reminisce with their favorite people in the company of nature.

Now that the big things are out of the way there are a few additional details I should mention. First off, all bookings include an event specialist who works with you from day 1 to ensure everything unfolds as seamlessly as possible. This can really help take unnecessary stress off the couple as there is someone skilled in putting the pieces together helping you along the way. There are also an assortment of accommodations on the property from tiny cabins for the wedding party to a more expansive cabin in the woods for the couple. More lodging can be found just a few miles down the road for any guests who travel from far away.

All in all, The Barn on the Pemi is an incredible venue to consider if any of the above descriptions put a smile on your face. As a venue they are professional, courteous and their formula is ingrained in everything they do.
