Why to consider a First Look/Touch on your Wedding Day

Bride and groom during first look

While a First Look or First Touch isn’t for everyone there are many ways it can benefit couples. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, a First Look is a planned break in the day, before the ceremony, when the couple gets to see each other and have a moment together before things get hectic. A First Touch is very similar though the couple only gets to touch hands without seeing each other. While both of these experiences pull away from tradition they tend to offer a fun release before the guests show. Read on to see how either of these could benefit you and your partner on your wedding day.

  1. Emotional connection - As mentioned, a First Look or Touch allows the bride and groom to share an intimate and emotional moment before the whirlwind of the wedding day begins. It can be a private, quiet moment to express your love and excitement for one another and what the day has in store.

  2. Reduces nerves - Many couples experience nervousness before the wedding ceremony. With all the planning leading up to the celebration a bit of time with your favorite person can bring some much needed calm.

  3. Lengthy reveal - The First Look or Touch provides an opportunity to get expressive images before the ceremony. This can be especially beneficial if you have a tight schedule or are getting married in the evening when there is limited natural light. You'll have more time for photos and can capture the moment in a relaxed atmosphere.

  4. Privacy and intimacy - These times are often very intimate moments between the couple. It allows you to exchange private words, share a quiet embrace and connect emotionally without the pressure of an audience. Remember, this day belongs to you and your partner so it’s more than okay to have some quality time with just the two of you.

  5. Enjoy the cocktail hour - By taking photos before the ceremony you can join your guests during the cocktail hour and enjoy more of your wedding day with the people you love.

Some couples feel that having a First Look or Touch takes away the anticipation of the ceremony to see each other for the first time as they walk down the aisle. Others like the idea of “checking in” with their partner to share their excitement for what’s about to come. Discuss this decision with your partner and your photographer to make the best choice for your special day.
