Selmah & Stephen in Marshfield, Massachusetts
Selmah and Stephen had an amazing backyard wedding at a family member’s home in Marshfield, Massachusetts. The weather was absolutely gorgeous as their closest friends and family gathered for this intimate, once in a lifetime, celebration. While the event itself went by quicker than some, there was no lack of emotion from the happy couple or their guests. The amount of expressive moments I captured surprised even me as each one held its own unique kind of magic.
This wedding took place in the Fall and there was something so special about the colors that day. I edit true-to-color so I’m always trying to match the tones that I actually experienced during the session. This day was incredibly warm and the way the greens mixed with the yellows just, well, made me take notice. I remember driving home after everything was said and done thinking to myself, “I am so lucky!” Using something you’re passionate about to bring out the best in others is so rewarding and something I’ll never grow tired of. Whether large or small, playing such an important role in a couple’s day is a gift, no way around it.
These smaller weddings often make me change my approach in different ways. Having fewer guests, simpler environments and a tighter timeline cause me to think outside the box as I work to gain a new vantage point every few frames I capture. I really love the ease of smaller weddings even though the larger ones bring their own type of excitement. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the first wedding I photographed was a backyard wedding or perhaps I’m a sucker for celebrating close to home. Either way, Selmah and Steven’s wedding did not disappoint in the slightest and made me that much more excited for the next backyard wedding that comes my way.
