How to bring a little calm into your wedding planning
Planning something as complex as a wedding can cause even the most zen-like person to feel under pressure. Fortunately, there are certain things we can do to limit these feelings of stress and carry on with our time of engagement. Below, I list some of these in no particular order.
Set realistic expectations - It's important to set realistic expectations for your wedding day. Sure, it’s a super important day and you probably have a lot of people attending but it’s okay if something is different from what you envisioned. Remind yourself that things don’t have to be “Perfect” for it to be a dream-worthy day!
Prioritize and delegate - Make a list of what needs to be done and prioritize tasks from most to least important. Delegate responsibilities to family members or friends who are willing to help. A little insider secret: there are always people eager for some extra responsibility when it comes to weddings. Why not give it to them?
Take breaks - Like anything else, we need to find a balance with planning so we don’t feel burnt out. Schedule some time for self-care such as exercise or a relaxing day at a spa to recharge your batteries and bring yourself back to neutral.
Communicate effectively - Effective communication with your partner and vendors is super important. Make sure you make your expectations and concerns clear to avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary stress. It’s also very important that you fully understand their expectations and concerns as well to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Keep perspective - Remember that your wedding day is just one day in your life. Focus on the big picture and what really matters - marrying the love of your life and celebrating with your favorite people. Everything else is just icing on the wedding cake!
Hire a wedding planner - Did you know there are people who are passionate and extremely skilled at planning these types of events? They are cool under pressure and seem to have a solution for every issue that could arise. Hiring a planner can really help take some of the stress off your shoulders. They can help with the details and logistics, leaving you more time to enjoy the process leading up to your big day.
