Wolf and Harp Wedding Venue - Norway, Maine
Wolf and Harp is one of those wedding venues where you can feel the character of the space the moment you set foot inside its doors (that’s where the magic waits). Nestled on a quiet residential road in Norway, Maine, the property is a bit unassuming at first glance. Sure, the enormous house and barn look like they would provide plenty of room for you and your guests to celebrate in style but to see this venue as nothing more would be a huge mistake. While there is a lot of charm to how the space is broken up what really stood out during my tour was the amazing experience awaiting the couple and their closest friends leading up to the Big Day.
To begin, I was lucky enough to have a tour with Rylee Papworth, the events director at Wolf and Harp. Walking through the house I was taken aback by how open and inviting it was. I know, you sort of expect open and inviting at a wedding venue but there was something unique about this space. At once, it was traditional and modern - an amazingly successful combination of the two that didn’t go unnoticed. All the creature comforts you’d expect to find in a lavish resort type setting were here only wrapped up in a beautiful 19th century mansion. Why is this so important you might be asking - well, in season bookings include the use of this mansion from Thursday through Sunday for the lucky couple and up to six guests. This means that those super hectic days leading up to your wedding don’t have to be so exhausting. Instead you, and those closest to you, can relax and live every moment to the fullest. Oh, and speaking of living every moment to the fullest, I need to mention the master bathroom. It was a transformative experience just walking into that bathroom during the tour so I can only imagine how nice it would feel to have that as my prep space on my wedding day. This sense of grandness helps prepare you for the new chapter you’re about to step into.
Moving on from the house you have the barn which turned out to have a little secret of its own. The moment you enter you feel surrounded by history. You immediately start to envision the stories and moments that took place within these walls. Speaking of these walls, they are able to hold between 110 - 125 guests depending on whether or not you plan to dance the night away. For those who do, the barn includes a second floor with an ideal location for the dj to set up shop overlooking the dance floor below. This sort of integration can really help keep the party moving in the right direction. When the night is coming to a close and only your closest family and friends remain you can extend the after party by opting for the intimate speak-easy downstairs. This is a great place to unwind, be close and share your favorite memories of the day.
The outside ceremony space has a clean and charming aesthetic. Located behind the house, a short path takes you to a spot lined with wooden farm benches to seat all your guests. Unfortunately, a recent storm had caused a tree to fall which blocked the walkway and I wasn’t able to get a closer look at the altar area. Still, from what I could see, the space looked very accommodating and fitting for such an important occasion.
In the end, there are so many choices when it comes to choosing a venue for your special day. The most important thing is to find one that offers what’s most important to the two of you, whatever that might be. Wolf and Harp really impressed me with their beautiful mansion with all the bells and whistles you could possibly imagine. It’s clear that their goal is to create a calming atmosphere leading up to the wedding and take all those last minute worries away.
